From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Music is an art form whose medium is sound. Common elements of music are pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulation), dynamics, and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture. The word derives from Greek μουσική (mousike), "(art) of the Muses." The creation, performance, significance, and even the definition of music vary according to culture and social context. Music ranges from strictly organized compositions (and their recreation in performance), through improvisational music to aleatoric forms. Music can be divided into genres and subgenres, although the dividing lines and relationships between music genres are often subtle, sometimes open to individual interpretation, and occasionally controversial. Within "the arts," music may be classified as a performing art, a fine art, and auditory art. To many people in many cultures music is an important part of their way of life. Greek philosophers and ancient Indian philosophers defined music as tones ordered horizontally as melodies and vertically as harmonies. Common sayings such as "the harmony of the spheres" and "it is music to my ears" point to the notion that music is often ordered and pleasant to listen to. However, 20th-century composer John Cage thought that any sound can be music, saying, for example, "There is no noise, only sound." Musicologist Jean-Jacques Nattiez summarizes the relativist, post-modern viewpoint: "...the border between music and noise is always culturally defined—which implies that, even within a single society, this border does not always pass through the same place; in short, there is rarely a consensus.... By all accounts there is no single and intercultural universal concept defining what music might be, except that it is 'sound through time'." From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License Can my Limewire music be seen from the authorities when I download from iTunes? Q. I have been using limewire for downloading music, but due to the things I hear about people getting sued I want to stop and download music the right way, iTunes. The only concern i have is if you use iTunes, can my hardrive still be accessed to see if I ever downloaded illegaly. Basically, if I download music from iTunes, can they see if I have limewire music on my iTunes? I would greatly appreciate help. Thanks. Asked by Ramon - Wed Sep 30 15:55:08 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. You can continue to download music from Limewire. I've been using Limewire for years. I've also downlaoded a song or two from iTunes. iTunes is connected to a database of music, therefore, nothing on your computer will be scanned by iTunes (except for your music collection within iTunes for the genuis feature). And the genius scans the music via band name, genre..etc..it's not actually scanning to see if your music is legal or not. Besides, it would be illegal for anyone to access your computer without your permission. The stories you're hearing about people getting sued happened back in the days of Napster (before it was reopened after legal issues) and people on Limewire who get caught are those who spend hours or even days at a time… [cont.] Answered by hides_in_the_dark - Wed Sep 30 16:09:11 2009 What music is suppossed to help your brain work better while doing homework and studying for tests?
